No Land

This series of photographic based collages speaks to the nature of our ever-changing, industrialized world. All of these places and spaces are forgotten or abandoned buildings, scattered throughout Ontario. They have been left to turn to rubble as time passes, as buildings of the past. However, I wanted to bring these spaces back to life, and turn them into relics, using Utopian inspired geometric shapes and materials. With the application of gold leaf and embroidery, these photographs become one-of-a-kind objects, showing futuristic visions and a new potential for reclaiming these spaces as valuable land. As a Western society, we have reached a point where we believe our resources are endless, and have become more focused on creating the new, rather than rediscovering the old. I hope that these images speak to the importance of the past and how we can learn from it to influence the future.
